Watermelon and Tomato Salad

Watermelon and Tomato Salad

How are you all doing during this extraordinary time? Hoping you are all well. Not much has changed for me – the farmer’s markets were already my social life and although they won’t let me handle the produce not much has changed. I’ve been filming a lot of videos for the cookbook, frantically using the harvests from the garden, before summer slips into fall. Writing is very difficult, so I’m counting on the cooler weather and a deeper acceptance level of the current situation to fortify my concentration, allowing me to actually finish the dozens of recipes I’ve started.

This fruit salad isn’t really a recipe but I couldn’t resist sharing my photo. That’s French mint on top. It has smaller, darker leaves than spearmint, a milder taste, and the flowers are edible. However their texture does have something to be desired; best to pluck each floret and scatter them across the fruit if eating. Squeeze a little lime over the watermelon and tomatoes. Sprinkle your favorite salt and/or dried pepper flakes on top for some zing. I’m having a love affair with Maras red pepper flakes right now.
